Friday, our last in theatre for a while.

Today is a good day, we've created a playful space.

B says to K “We can do visually anything to video." He wants to know what how she would like the tap-tile trigger to effect the video (in terms of duration, speed, direction of video clip play back, etc.)

Out of sequence: While K is sitting and talking to dancers in the theatre the first week after their first exposure to tap tile, the media is reduced in scale to 4 shorts or videos (import layers as separate video stills or layers .psd quicktime or edited in final cut).

N gets list of words from K to animate for Fire relating to her Vicky The Torch monologue including: "passion, anger, fire, burn, burn baby burn, conflagration, pique, aggression, burn it down, out of the classrooms and into the streets, Bush pull out, Kent State, Jackson State, Watts, Detroit, Washington, Montgomery Alabama, Selma Alabama, Abby Hoffman, Bobbie Seal, SDS, SMC, RCY, Yippies, Nagasaki, Hiroshima, after that we knew, Bush, Cheney, Rumsfield, 2000th soldier killed, embedded.” N comes up with the idea of the words projecting over the dancers becoming 10101 (pure data) before the bomb blast.

 

Fire Dancers



N talks to K and E about doing Water scene. N also shows water video clips to Mk and asks about water sounds that could be triggered by a dancer. He has ideas of the ice water video sounding like bell sounds –clear sound. (I had given B several small water clips and talked about the idea of filling the body with water via a patch, kept saying the scene is open to others, but by Friday began to limit involvement to K/E/B/Mk/N with all lending voices –later P got involved as camera man, N found book on life of water and brought in text for all to read along with idea.)

M tests wings on another dancer (who later drops out of project) and talks about doing it all again next year with more time/media (whatever).

While N shows H20 video clips to K and E, K tells N that she need to create a video score for E to dance with. Karen asks N to first create dance as a visual entity (Yikes! I’m doing the element. I keep asking her what she wants and she tells me I have to decide- even on the music. I conduct an online search for music at home.)

Thoughts on Water body: Body seen from side or top of water dancer, water sounds, projection from above, fill dancer/camera. Using side video (on one or two screens). The dancer’s silhouette (outline) mixed with video of water. Costuming must be white or black against which we will need an opposite-colored background.

 

 

Scheduling: Earth rehearsal scheduled for 12:30 EST Tuesday (rescheduled later due to TA meeting).


Access Grid: I like that we are gathering ideas and media. Online people comment on the positive collaboration process, the nice space, and value of rehearsing online. P&Jimmy discuss Interplay in AG online meeting meeting (we talk of blue-screened scene with Beth/N in 3D set environment). Art Grid long time collaborator Miho (in Alaska) and B talk on grid (for the first time since they went to graduate school together in Ohio). All are interested in the AG conversation, but multiple things are going on in the space at once, and it is interrupting the dancers who want to use the space to rehearse Fire. N moves to P's office. Alaska asks about true North vs. magnetic in compass points. They do not commit to joining. Earth lines from J&B coming in next week for N to edit together live in the meeting/rehearsal online, MIDI consumer/producer service on Access Grid portal to receive MIDI.

N later works on planning Earth dramatic section on days when fire dance K/B/dancers unavailable.

N to do list: N to make smaller size violence clips, finish Earth edit and memorize, help P 7pm Saturday and Sunday, publicity, water, and scheduling. N to get contact list out.
N&P only ones around 10-4/5 daily and set up over weekend/nights, N&P once and P&P Sunday.
